What is Investing?

Line

To put it simply, investing is putting your money into something you believe will increase in value over time. Therefore, some individuals opt to put their money in investments instead of savings, as investments usually have a higher expected return.

Nowadays, you can invest in pretty much anything, such as art, cryptocurrencies, wine, property etc. However, to not blow your mind, we’re going to focus on one of the most common investment routes – the stock market.

The stock market enables you to invest in the likes of stocks, bonds and funds with the expectation that they will increase in value. However, it is important to note that investing comes with its own risks, and the value of your investment can go down, meaning that you get back less than you originally invested.

Warning :

With the rise of retail investors (non-professional investors, like you and me), social platforms are riddled with posts about supposed big returns. However, it’s important to do your research and be comfortable with your investments. Understanding the reasoning behind your investment, rather than a dodgy tip, will enable you to stay calm in market dips and hold on for better returns.

If you’re new to investing, take a look at our articles below. We’ll take you through whether investing is right for you and share the stock market basics.
