A Day in the Life

Driving a project from start to finish.

  • Working out what the problem is and how to solve it

  • Hosting meetings to get status updates from people and presenting on progress

  • Networking with a lot of different teams

  • Updating senior management on progress

  • Highlighting risks and issues that occur

  • Completing and updating timelines and RACIs etc. in the project management plan

  • Launching products and processes with departments or sites across the network

  • Closing documents for a finished project

Work from home vs in the office

It is flexible, but I work from home three times a week and in the office twice a week. We can work from anywhere in the world for 30 days a year.

How is work assigned?

Work is assigned by my manager depending on how much resource I have when a new project is launched.

Is your role client-focussed?

We do work with clients a lot. Depending on the project, there is just automatically clients assigned.

Do you take a professional qualification?

There are a few qualifications you can take – I am awaiting results from the final PMQ exam.

Career Progression

Lots of career progression. Above me, there are senior PMs, Programme Managers, and Heads of Departments

  • It comes in ebbs and flows – sometimes you will be really busy, and other times you will have downtime where not many things need doing
  • Need to be good at hosting meetings and confident in presenting to people
  • I enjoy the work – if you like getting things complete from nothing to actually seeing a beneficial change, PM is a good place to start
