A Day in the Life

My day-to-day ranges quite significantly, depending on the partners I am managing and their priorities at the time. For example, I can spend one day attending a corporate stewardship event or presenting to a partners’ Board of Directors, and the next bucket collecting in London tube stations alongside a partners’ employee volunteers. As a Corporate Partnership Manager, you have to remain adaptable and always be willing to get involved in any fundraising activities alongside your partners.

Some days are office-based, where I spend my time working on partnership proposals, building account management plans or finalising the details of an upcoming fundraising activity. I also spend a portion of my time building an in-dept understanding of the charity, working closely with the Service Delivery Teams to learn about the charity’s priorities and the programmes that are run. This means I can confidently communicate the impact of the support of our corporate partners and also have compelling conversations to encourage an increase where possible.

The other half of your time is spent with your corporate partners. This could include meetings with your key Account Manager to plan upcoming fundraising activities to running all-staff engagement events or presenting to senior leadership. Throughout all of these activities, your main priority is to ensure that the charity becomes an integrated part of the corporate partners’ business, encouraging engagement from employees and/or the companys’ customers to maximise contribution to the charity’s objectives.

Additional Details

Working from home vs in the office

As a result of the pandemic, my role is now home-based, however involves travel to the charity’s recovery centres and partner offices.

Do you have flexi working?

Flexi working is available around the core hours of 10am – 4pm.

How is work assigned to you?

Corporate Partners are assigned to me by the Head of Corporate Partnerships, and I then have full autonomy in the day-to-day management of these accounts. I am required to submit financial forecasts and ensure these targets are met to the best of my ability.

Career progression

I started in the team as a Partnerships Executive and progressed to a Manager position. There is an opportunity within the structure to progress into a Senior Manager position and then potentially into a Head Of role.

Author's Opinion

  • I really enjoy spending time with the charity beneficiaries as it really demonstrates to me the impact of my role and the difference that the corporate fundraising I secure makes.
  • With so many charities in need of urgent support, a genuine passion for the charity you are working for is vital to ensure you’re able to be authentic in your approach to maximise the chance of securing support.
  • You have to be a ‘people-person’ within this role, with an ability to quickly build rapport with a range of individuals from all levels of an organisation.
